The End of the Road

Did you notice the blogging suddenly stopped as we approached the end of our journeys? On our last day in Colmar, we made a day trip to Strasbourg where we took a boat tour of the city. On Sunday, we drove to Zurich. We spent the day in Zurich walking around the old town, and our traveling buddies departed home but with a layover at LAX until Monday morning. On Monday, we had a gruesome 24 hour trip home capped by a 1 1/2 hour Uber wait at the airport at 1 AM. We’re all finally back home in the US after an exhausting but exhilarating trip. Before ending the blog here are a few shots from Strasbourg and Zurich. Thanks for following along.

Castles, Villages and Wine

Thursday September 15, 2022 Today was a day to explore the area around Colmar, France. We toured Haut-Koenigsbourg Castle. It’s origin dates back to at least the 1100’s.  Over the years it has deteriorated, leaving it nearly in ruins until major restoration 1900 to 1908. It’s now a dramatic historic museum. Rain challenged our castle visit, but it cleared in the afternoon so that we were able to enjoy a few local villages along with some local Alsace wine.  The day ended back at our hotel with bread, cheese, cold cuts, and wine.   Castle Guard Castles and rain Charming village Wine tasting  End of enjoyable day back at our hotel

Farewell to Munich

 Saturday September 3, 2022 On our last day in Munich, we were lucky to be able to tour the Neuschwanstein castle. The castle was built by “Mad” King Ludwig II, who lived there less than 6 months before his suspicious death. It is said to be the inspiration for The Disney Castle. With sunny skies early in the day, most rain gear was left in the bus. Leaving the castle we were met with a prolonged downpour adding excitement to the long walk back to the bus. In the evening we enjoyed a wonderful banquet of Bavarian delights. Outside the Tour Bus Hotdogs in pretzel rolls for lunch Our Restaurant  Beer and Pretzels before  dinner

More Fun in Colmar

  Friday September 16, 2022 Today we relaxed in Colmar, browsing about old town with some shopping. We managed to get a reservation at a popular Michelin Guide Restaurant for lunch, and later visited the Bartholdi Museum housed in the birthplace of Auguste Bartholdi, who sculpted multiple monuments including the Statue of Liberty. Auguste Bartholdi  Models of Lady Liberty  Shopping abounded; this one’s coming home Unfortunately, with only carryons, there’s not room for the Jelly Cat Pretzel  The wall decorations at the restaurant encouraged Todd to try the Ray Fish. Unbelievably Delicious! The crème brûlée was a perfect finish Of course, we continue to drink too much wine.
